Resellers Color of the Year 2022

As resellers, we know that our customers are sometimes looking for something specific. They search for specific brands, styles, sizes, and colors. Pantone released its 2022 Spring/Summer Color Pallet for this year along with its current predictions for what designers will be revealing in their Fall/Winter 2022 collections.

Wednesday, December 8, 2021, the announcement came that the 2022 Color Of The Year is here. We learned that something new occurred this year.  The 2022 color of the year, Very Peri, was created by Pantone.  For the 23 years that Pantone has been in business, it has never fabricated a new color for this occasion.  In the past, the colors were selected from the existing Pantone Color System. Needless to say, we will be seeing this color quite a bit in fashion, art, and design this year.

Very Peri could be described as purple by the naked eye, but it actually belongs in the blue family. It has a blue hue infused with red-violet. Leatrice Eiseman states, “It was really important for us to come up with a new color, because we have a very new vision of the world now”. Leatrice “Lee” Eiseman is Pantone’s executive director and has been referred to as the international color guru

Resellers are able to use the 2022 Spring and Summer Color Palette predictions as a guide while sourcing. Resellers know the styles that are in fashion, in addition to which fashion trends are coming back from the past.  Both can be equally important.  Color trends are important because they can help you make an educated decision on whether an item is worth purchasing to resell. Will it make you profit?  Is this clothing item in demand?  If you know a certain color is selling like hotcakes, you can confidently throw it into your cart and not fear that it will cause you anxiety because it is only taking up space.

Using the knowledge that retailers are simultaneously using can be beneficial to us as resellers.  Considered to be the industry-leading color specialist, Pantone as a company extends its expertise to businesses that are creating their visual identity. Company’s put their faith in the skills this company provides when updating or renewing their brand. Many companies await Pantone’s annual December announcement before they commit to marketing decisions or product development for the upcoming year.  The fashion industry in particular is highly influenced by Pantone’s global color trend predictions for the upcoming spring/summer seasons. A total of ten colors were chosen for the 2022 New York Fashion Week Color Pallet along with some neutral shades that belong to the 2022 Core Classics Palette. The Core Classics Pallet is Pantone’s current prediction of which colors designers will be using in their fall/winter collections.

The Spring/Summer 2022 NYFW Color Palette:

  • Spun Sugar is a pastel color that is a lighter blue. A brighter baby blue
  • Gossamer Pink is reminiscent of the baby powder pink seen at baby showers.
  • Innuendo is a bright pink that inspires energy. It would be hard to insinuate that you are not trying to make a fashion statement while wearing this color.
  • Skydiver is an uplifting blue
  • Daffodil is a shade of yellow that puts off the feeling of excitement when a new spring season emerges.
  • Glacier Lake is a shade of blue that gives off a feeling of solitude.
  • Harbor Blue is a blue shade that gives a safe and secure feeling.
  • Coca Mocha is a warm brown color that gives the feeling of drinking a warm beverage on a cold day.
  • Dahlia is the perfect purple for emerging from a pandemic.
  • Poinciana is a bright red color. On it's own, it makes a fashion statement.

As resellers, we can go thrifting with the knowledge of the upcoming season’s colors. Maybe we would not normally pick up a “canary” shirt, but we will now. The season in front of us is filled with fashion statements of pink, red, purple, and yellow. Sourcing the blues and greens in this palette is a smart move as well. If you have not started sourcing for the upcoming seasons, you can start anytime. The color pallets have been released. Take advantage of this! #Resellertip
