Jaclyn, New York

While I adore my tiny little love nest in the LES, there are times when the close quarters make me want to go LOCO on my apartment’s ass!  Believe me, I’m not usually a violent person, it’s just that I’ve been thrifting again and my apartment’s staged an A&E style intervention between me and my most favorite thing to do.  I’ve been trying to fight it tooth and nail, but deep down I know it’s for my own good.  When my entire room feels like its turned into one big walk-in closet, I have to man up and realize it’s just my bedroom begging me to please thrift responsibly.  But not to worry, what doesn’t kill my closet makes it stronger! After bulldozing my way through layer upon layer upon layer of things I never use, I not only made room for my new stuff but also excavated the best come up from OMG ever and some adorable vintage tops that would have been too late to sport without covering them up come Fall.

Ah, I think thrifting through my own stuff might actually be the trick that keeps me from jonesing for my next flea market fix.  Am I rehabilitated?  Hardly.  Let’s just say I’m taking it one day at a time…

To: A much needed getaway!

Where: North Shore and Waikiki, Oahu, HI

I needed to get away on a getaway or I was seriously going to hurt someone!  This girl needed a vacation bad, real bad.  Ever since I’ve been self-employed (for over 2 years now!), my BF and I have not been able to take a real vacay.  I’m talking about the FOR REAL kind, you know, where you sit around and don’t do doo doo.  The timing finally worked out just right and Hawaii was just the perfect place to spend some much deserved R&R.  I haven’t been there in over 8 years, so coming back after that long hiatus was a completely different experience.  One word to sum up the trip: AMAZING.

We stayed for a total of 6 days and I used my laptop ONCE.  Sayonara real world! We spent 4 days in a rented beach cottage in the North Shore that was just surreal.  It’s the same place Jac went for her getaway last year and Paradise is NOT an overstatement.  We were literally steps away from the water so I was in my bikini all day and swam, snorkeled, made breakfast/lunch/dinner, laid out, and watched the sunrise and set.  It was so awesome.  I kept the rest of my outfits easy and breezy as we explored Waikiki, which was equally fun and fabulous.  The water was so warm, the sand so soft, and the food so so so good.  I could scream “I LOVE HAWAII” out loud all day.  Hopefully it won’t take me another 2 years to unplug.  It was everything I needed to recharge!

Spring is in full swing and we couldn’t be more excited!  Shoot, even New York is getting its fair share of sunshine.  So the time is now to dive back into your closet and look for pieces that are laid back and comfy, with colors that celebrate the season.  Here’s a look at our two crushes of the moment that scream HELLO SPRING.  These dolls have struck the perfect balance for the perfect spring outfit by going loose on top and leggy on bottom.  We’re loving the look over here, and if you do too, check out where to find something just as cute and sexy for yourself.

CLOSET CRUSH: CASUALLY COOL AT COACHELLA

Rachel Bilson is a celebrity that we absolutely adore.  She is super cute, always looks like she’s got it together, and best of all, has such great style!  So when we found out that she wore a Brigid Catiis Abby Tank to the 2010 Coachella Music Festival 2 weeks ago and was featured on Who What Wear Daily, we just about died.  As usual, she kept it simple and practical.  The desert heat is no joke and Rachel stayed cool in the breezy tank, which has a chiffon see-thru back (or, out now, a crochet see-thru back).  Rachel, thanks for always getting it right and knowing your style inside and out!

Brigid Catiis Abby Tank (in Black Silk + Black Crochet and Green Silk + Cream Crochet) $142, Levi’s Rolled Hem Shorts, $54.50, Levi’s Boyfriend Shorts, On Sale for $25

CLOSET CRUSH: THE PERFECT TAN + DENIM COMBO

Show some Spring spirit by wearing this season’s must-have color combo, tan and denim.  This cutie looks flawless in her perfectly fitted romper and low key accessories.  To keep her look casual and fresh, she threw on a denim button down over it all – which is definitely a staple in our closets too.  Let’s all give it up for another winner in the daytime appropriate outfit category!

Sparkle & Fade Romper $58, Velvet “Christy” Shirt $152, Jeffrey Campbell “Catalina” Flat $98

To: Julie’s Bachelorette Extravaganza

Where: Cabo, Mexico Baby!

One of my bestest friends, Julie, is getting married in 3 weeks (WOO HOO!) and as the Maid of Honor, I’ve helped to plan 4 days of non-stop partying and relaxation (yeah, who am I kidding?) in Cabo with 9 other girls.  UH OH!  As usual, I packed at the very last minute and grabbed all things comfy, printed and short – J/K!  Or in other words, wrinkled, so please excuse the wrinkled clothing that is my suitcase in all the pictures!  To keep things simple, I did 3 outfits per day…pool/beach + day + evening wear.  Here’s a look at what I’ve packed in my bags…

Get Up Day 1: Bikini Top + Bikini Bottom (Super old and I can’t remember where they’re from), BDG Denim Button Down (UO), Vintage Belt (Goodwill), Brigid Catiis Vintage Remake Skirt and Dress (Brigid Catiis)

Get Up Day 2: Kimchi & Blue Denim Bikini Top (UO) + Striped Tank (Downtown Alley, LA) + Vintage High Waist Shorts (Vintage Warehouse, LA), Brigid Catiis Lola Playsuit (Brigid Catiis)

Get Up Day 3: Mikoh Bathing Suit (THE CUTEST EVER, Revolve Clothing) and Brigid Catiis Vintage Remake Dresses + Vintage Studded Belt (Brigid Catiis and Vintage Warehouse, LA)

Get Up Day 4: XOXO Bikini Top + Mikoh Bikini Bottom (Macy’s and Revolve Clothing), Brigid Catiis Laura Dress (Brigid Catiis), Vintage Netted Dress + Belt (Vintage Warehouse, LA)

Shoes: Lovers + Friends Wedges and Studded Sandals (Revolve Clothing), Flip Flops + Beige Knotted Wedges (Target)

Accessories: Mostly vintage jewelry and belts, F21 Silver Necklace and “Raissa” Necklace (Rhona Jewelry)

I’m crossing my fingers that I brought enough of everything!  I can’t wait to celebrate Julie’s last few weeks as a single lady in Cabo.  (Jac, I wish you were coming, but the alcoholic in me is breathing a sigh of relief.  Haha!)  See you guys in a few days!

Jaclyn, New York

Last week, Manhattan received a Summer preview of the weather and it was a MUST to go out and see!  On a rare occasion, I actually got up and ventured out into the city before 3pm on a Sunday.  On a 75 degree afternoon, boots were NOT an option.  So, I dug deep (like way deep) into a pile of sandals untouched since last year and pulled out a pair of clogs I bought at Urban Outfitters about 4 years ago.  I remember thinking hard about this purchase back then because I wasn’t totally sure that clog-hopping around in wood shoes would be ideal in this city.  But since they were only $5 bucks on clearance (Yes, I’m a CHEAPSKATE who contemplates $5 shoe purchases.  Is that a crime!?), I decided to take them home.

Turns out they are one of the most comfy pair of sandals I own, and unlike short-people-hating flats, the wedge heel was just the right height to make something else I found that day look even better…my legs.  Haha, this was the first day in forever I let them go tights free and I’m sure they just drank in the vitamin D.  I promise you sunshine, if you come back to stay, my legs and clogs will do our very very best to get up early and enjoy you as much as we can!
