Raissa and Jaclyn, Los Angeles

Where have we been you ask?  TOGETHER is where!  We have been in a non-stop epic wedding whirlwind.  We’re both Maid of Honors (We know…us?!) in weddings that happen to fall on back to back weekends – one was last Saturday in L.A. and the other one is this weekend in Hawaii (pictures to come!).  So, while we were in wedding limbo, we snuck out for a much needed alcoholic beverage.  With one wedding down and one more to go, we shared key Maid of Honor strategies and tactics on how to be the best MOH’s ever!  For our quick little getaway, we threw on the easiest vintage outfits in our respective closets and suitcases to instantly have one less thing to think about.  Man, you think being a bride is hard? Try being a couple of 9-midnight working, frequent flying, hard-partying Maid of Honors!  J/K!  These two brides were totally worth it.  We love them both dearly and couldn’t be more honored to be part of their special day!

WOW, today’s my birthday and I’m totally tripping out on how fast the year has gone by!  I think what I like best about my birthday is how close it is to Thanksgiving.  It’s definitely my favorite holiday and some years it even falls ON my birthday.  Seriously, there’s nothing better than Birthday Turkey, Birthday Sweet Potatoes, Birthday Stuffing…the delicious list goes on and on and on! But things didn’t turn out that way this year so my hubby and a good friend made our way to my go-to dinner spot, Schiller’s.  It was really cold out, but since the restaurant is just a couple of blocks away from my apartment I decided to choose fashion over function (just for today I swear!) and wear my new cut out bodysuit I ordered from Urban last week (LOVE!) and my new gigantic faux fur vest that was a present from my man (LOVE LOVE!!).  Since the bodysuit is super revealing, I wore a sheer black blouse over it which worked as the perfect cover up!

As we finished up our meal, I couldn’t help but be all smiles and reflect on another great year in NYC.  I don’t know what I did to deserve all the great family and friends in my life, but I know I couldn’t be more thankful.  Cheers!!

Feeling a bit brave (and totally over heated with this #(&%(@! weather) yesterday, I took a cue from an early D.I.M project that Raissa did a while back and tried to make myself a crop top.  I have about 4 of these vintage black Levi’s kids t-shirts that I bought during an obsessive compulsive shopping trip to OMG last year, so figured that I had a few to spare in case I messed up royally.  In a rush to catch a 5:50pm movie, I didn’t exactly follow Rais’s helpful advice about cutting little by little until you get to the desired length, and instead, went straight for the jugular and hacked right into the middle of this thing!!  Okaaay, so it ended up a wee bit shorter than I would have liked, but I think I saved it by wearing the cute lace bralette underneath.  The way how just the tiniest bit of the scalloped edge peeked out looked pretty cool if I do say so myself.  Plus, we made the movie RIGHT ON TIME!  Sigh, don’t you just love happy endings?!

My weekends have been booked pretty solid with picnics and bbqs recently since the weather has begun to get a whole lot brighter out here.  However, yesterday, I found myself with the day free to do whatever my little heart desired.  So of course, I decided to do my most favorite thing ever and check out the local flea markets!  I got off to a late start though since sleeping in is my second most favorite thing ever to do, and only had time to check out one.  I picked the flea market on 25th St. and 6th Ave. since I knew they would have a lot of vendors there, which means more guys competing for your business, and can usually come up on some really awesome bargains.  Here’s a look at my newest finds:

PLAID SHIRTS - Yes, I know it’s too hot for these right now but for 2 bucks a piece I just couldn’t say no!  Plus I loved the loose ’n skinny cut on them and, thinking ahead, feel like I’ll be working these out a ton when the weather gets cooler.

ACCESSORIES GALORE – Okay, let me just say that some of this stuff was pretty filthy when I bought it.  I know..GROSS.  But hey, nothing was over 3 dollars and it only took a little elbow grease to clean them up.  They look as good as new now, right?!

All and all, a very successful trip I must say!  Oh, and speaking of trips, I will be making my way back home to LA this week after a very looong hiatus.  I CANNOT wait to visit all my friends, family, and old thrift store stomping grounds!  I think I’m going to forego packing and just bring an empty suitcase with me.  No, SERIOUSLY.

To: Paradise

Where: Rocky Point/North Shore, Hawaii

Get Up 1: Ethnic Tunic Top (Quality Thrift, LA), White Levi’s Shorts (Ebay), Sunglasses (Quality Thrift, LA)

Get Up 2: Leopard Print Bikini Top (Goodwill, LA), Bikini Bottoms (Flea Market, NYC)

Aloha!  I’m finally back in the mainland after 7 days of fun in the sun, sand, and crystal clear blue water of Hawaii.  Not waking up to this ocean view is going to be real tough, and I know I should be super bummed to have to work tomorrow, but it does feel kinda good to be home (at least that’s what I’m going to keep trying to tell myself!!)  I would never make you sit through a ton of vacation pics, so I just want to share what I pretty much lived in when I was there.

Oh, and another great part of Hawaii that people might not be aware of…unchartered thrift store territory!  We took the red eye flight back to NY so we had some extra time to explore the city of Honolulu near the airport.  I found gems that included a La Perla black lace bodysuit, Missoni maxi skirt, and a black leather Valentino backpack..each under 5 bucks!  I’ll be sure to do a show and tell soon.  Aloha!
