Saturday was a very special night!  Not only was it a Jac + Raissa  L.A. reunion, but we…along with 27 other people…gathered for a surprise birthday dinner bash for our dear friend Thu.  She’s had a trying year with cancer, but thankfully, she finished her chemo treatments 2 weeks ago, so of course, a BIG celebration was in order!   We had dinner at a fabulous Italian restaurant called Terroni in their beautiful private room.  Thu looked AMAZING and was needless to say, super SURPRISED!  Surrounded by good food, good wine, good friends and loads and loads of LOVE for our girl, the evening was definitely a night to remember.  Especially since the festivities didn’t stop there!  We  partied it up around Los Angeles into the wee hours and spent all day Sunday in recovery mode.  Haha, YES!  It was that kind of a night and we wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Cheers to you, Thu, and to a cancer free 2010!  We love you darling!

SNOW!  Today it has made the streets an icy wet mess, but man, on Sunday morning it was soooo much fun to wake up to!  Seeing the insane amount of fresh snow on the ground felt like PAYBACK for having to spend my Saturday night stuck at home cleaning out my closet because of the blizzard.  But that’s cool, no hard feelings, my closet was in need of some much needed editing anyways!  I mean really, how many black t-shirts does a girl need??

After digging in and scrubbing my closet down to the essentials, I found a winter item that I’ve been OBSESSING about ever since we came across  these cuties from our most recent Closet Crush post.  Ugh, after having fur collars on the brain for two weeks, I can’t believe I’ve had one of my very own this whole time. I must say though, it scared the life out of me when I first spotted it.  It looked all curled up like a small squirrel or something and made me jump back about 10 feet!  Hey, I guess I deserved it for losing track of the little guy.  Welcome back furry friend, it’s so great to meet again!

Brrrrrrrrr! As the temperatures really start to drop (yes, even in L.A.!), we’ve been on the prowl for more creative winter gear that will help us get through the cold months.  As we explored our closets, we found that we could create a ton of new looks and totally extend our wardrobes just by LAYERING!  Our Crushes this week not only aced the layer test, but they did so, ever so stylishly.  Who says winter wear has to be bad and bulky?!?  Take it from these lovely ladies  – one FUN layering piece is all it takes to stay adorably cozy!

CLOSET CRUSH:  FUR COLLAR CUTIE

Talk about the best investment ever!!  A removeable fur collar is not only insanely warm, but you can use it over and over again with just about any jacket in your closet.  Check out these 2 cuties we fell in love with – one wore it around her boyfriend blazer and the other around her cropped leather jacket. It’s so versatile and effortless!  Your mission: GET ONE NOW!

CLOSET CRUSH: HOODED HOTTIE

Adding a hooded sweater, even if it is short sleeved, into your winter wardrobe mix can be oh so functional!  The hood protects your head and ears from the elements, and if it’s anything like the one worn by our adorable Crush, it can also turn an outfit into a sleek and laid back look.  Pile on the layers and try throwing on a loose hoodie over it all…don’t be surprised if everyone starts crushing on you!

WOW, today’s my birthday and I’m totally tripping out on how fast the year has gone by!  I think what I like best about my birthday is how close it is to Thanksgiving.  It’s definitely my favorite holiday and some years it even falls ON my birthday.  Seriously, there’s nothing better than Birthday Turkey, Birthday Sweet Potatoes, Birthday Stuffing…the delicious list goes on and on and on! But things didn’t turn out that way this year so my hubby and a good friend made our way to my go-to dinner spot, Schiller’s.  It was really cold out, but since the restaurant is just a couple of blocks away from my apartment I decided to choose fashion over function (just for today I swear!) and wear my new cut out bodysuit I ordered from Urban last week (LOVE!) and my new gigantic faux fur vest that was a present from my man (LOVE LOVE!!).  Since the bodysuit is super revealing, I wore a sheer black blouse over it which worked as the perfect cover up!

As we finished up our meal, I couldn’t help but be all smiles and reflect on another great year in NYC.  I don’t know what I did to deserve all the great family and friends in my life, but I know I couldn’t be more thankful.  Cheers!!
