Okay so we have to admit, we were going to take a break from buying shoes this month.  GASP!  I know, but for reasons both financial and space related, we just felt that we needed to go on a hiatus.  That is until we stumbled across the new Fall shoe arrivals from Newport News.  We’ve already pledged our eternal love for the website, so it didn’t surprise us much that their new shoes would be SOOO GOOD and SUCH A DEAL!  We couldn’t help ourselves and just had to break our vow of shoe abstinence and get ONE PAIR each.  After this, cross our hearts, we’re getting back on that wagon and not buying anymore shoes…until October!

I literally let out a little yelp when I saw these babies!  The patent wedge heel will be perfect for skipping around puddles when the rain hits out here and the black mesh detail keeps them from looking too cutesy.  I do plan on switching out the patent laces for regular ones though…those kind of laces can never stay tied!  For $34 bucks, they’re a bargain and I know I’ll get tons of use out of these in the months ahead.  Ah, new shoes.  WHAT A RUSH!

I have a thing for animal print.  Okay fine, I am obsessed with it!  So, when I spotted these booties on good ‘ole Newport News, I had to, had to, buy them.  Plus, I had a coupon for 20% off and free shipping, so there was no question folks, we were totally M.F.E.O (made for each other)!  My total came out to a mere $41, which is a small price to pay for all the happiness these shoes will bring me.  Thank you (again!) Newport News!

DRIVE don’t run to the Santee Alley in Downtown L.A.!  The both of us have been fortunate enough to have known about this place ever since we were young little shoppers.  Learning from the best, our moms would take us here for gaudy prom dresses, back to school gear, and fun treats for under $10.  Now that we’re all grown up, shopping in Santee can still be cheesy, but we’ll totally tolerate the extra cheese for the extra AWESOME deals.  YES, it’s hectic. YES, there are fake Coach, Gucci, and LV bags everywhere.  YES, it’s outdoors and can get sticky hot.  And YES, you can score on super YUMMY goodies!  So if you’re into out of this world bargains, and don’t mind doing a little hunting, then check out the Alley!  Here are some helpful pointers to get you through it:

1. The Alley starts on Olympic between Santee St. and Maple St. and goes down to 12th Street.  Blocks and blocks of STEALS!

2. It’s easy to get overwhelmed because it’s major sensory overload at every turn!  Stay focused on the task at hand: having what you’re looking for in mind before you get there helps.  Oh and have a little laugh while you’re there – lots of misspellings- see below!

3. Stick to basic pieces that you know you’ll wear for sure.  It’s easy to start purchasing everything that comes your way since it’s so cheap!  But shop around, you may find something identical at another vendor for less.  Found this denim romper with the front zipper for $18 and the denim elastic waist band skirt for $13.99.  Both super cute!

4. One word: SHOES.  They have EVERYTHING in every color and in every direction you look. CAREFUL!  It can get dangerous.  Again, stay calm and choose wisely. (PS – I can’t stop wearing my new fave shoes!)

5. Avoid the weekends if you can.  It’s even busier then.  Some stores take credit cards, and when they do, lines form (see below). The smaller shops take cash only but there are ATM’s around, ready and armed if you need them.  HAPPY SHOPPING!

Sure, it’s easier to look like a million bucks if you have a million bucks, but as we always say, YOU CAN’T BUY STYLE!  Obviously we will splurge now and again (and again ;) ), but finding deals is what makes shopping such a fun sport for us.  This means that we will look anywhere, high and LOW, for them.

Exhibit A – OMG:  A chain we believe is only on the East Coast and that specializes in reduced priced denim and tacky window displays.  But at one of these stores (the one in Union Square, NYC to be exact), we were able to find an enormous stash of vintage Levi’s (with the tags still on!!) for $2.99 each.  Yes, $2.99.  Here are a few pics of just the tip top of the Levi’s jeans, skirts, and shorts iceberg in our collection.  They’re probably all out of them now since we came across them last summer, but it’s just further evidence that one must seek if ye shall find!

Exhibit B – Rainbow:  Now, we believe this is a national chain and usually we’d zoom right past it.  But stop and take a look next time.  Yes, there’s a lot of ugly, but we’ve found some great deals at this place.  We’ve loaded up on bodysuit basics in all sorts of colors, and on a recent trip, found this nice man-tailored looking vest for $5 and way cool animal print tights for $3.99 (saw one’s very similar at Urban for $15…c’mon, for tights, get serious!)

This is all just to say that we should never judge a book by its cheap-o looking cover.  It pays to give little guys like these a chance.  Case closed!

Don’t you hate that American Apparel stuff is hardly ever on sale?  Well no need to worry about that any longer dolls!  Awhile back we came across some American Apparel deals on Ebay and wondered how the sellers were able to sell them so cheap.  We needed to know!  I mean, did they fall off the back of a truck?  Were they damaged somehow?  Well, after some quick detective work on the internet, we finally came across the answer…Amazon.com.  Their American Apparel stuff is like less than half the price!  Soooo good!  Now they don’t have everything, but enough to stock pile your wardrobe (and if your boyfriend’s being good, his wardrobe too) with all the basics you need without breaking the bank.  In these tough economic times, you gotta love that!

Hi there!  We’re Raissa and Jaclyn.   And what can we say?  We love clothes.  We love shoes.  We love deals.  But most of all, we love each other!

We met in 2001 through our significant others (who also happen to be best friends so that totally works out!) and we’ve been best buds ever since.  Even though we now live on opposite sides of the country, we’ve been able to stay connected through a series of hilarious emails, texts, and phone calls mostly centered around our favorite pastime, shopping!  Everytime we see something we absolutely want to have, wish we had, or NEED to have, we just have this urge to tell each other about it.  We started Closet Obsession to share this passion for clothes, shoes, and deals (along with anything else that happens to tickle our fancy for that matter) with anyone who’ll listen. :)

Hope you fellow fashion obsessionistas out there find our blog handy.  Cheers!
