This Halloween we decided to go out on Friday and Saturday night, so that meant DOUBLE the FUN…and double the stress to have to come up with two costumes! Luckily, both the costumes I wore were easy to pull off. On Friday night, I went to the Skirball Museum with a group of friends, including my BFF, Thu, who was feeling great! The day before the party, we decided to be guy weightlifters. We had all the props – weight belts, gloves, “1,000 LBS” dumbbells and even packed “heat” with rolled up socks. LOL! It was too funny! To have Thu there, with a BIG smile, was really all that I could have asked for that night.
Saturday was super fun too, except during the day when I had to quickly come up with another costume! I decided to be Julia Roberts from “Pretty Woman.” and was able to make my own costume from stuff I had and purchased my wig that day. It was everyone’s first time going to the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval, so we didn’t know what to expect. There were thousands and thousands of people in attendance and so many really good costumes. But, I have to give it to the Doorman costume as my FAVE. He had the flashlight, earpiece, guest list and a velvet rope on wheels! It was funny, clever and original. Can’t wait for next year!

UGH! My Halloween costume idea sooo did not go as planned. I wanted to be a KILLER BEE, but totally cheapskated my way out of that costume. How you ask? On Friday night, I went to Ricky’s on Carmine St. and thought that paying $12 just for wings and a headband was not worth the $$$. Little did I know that the only full bee costumes I would find after passing on that would be so SUPER SLUTTY! And don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the SEXY fill-in-the-blank costumes, but the ones I found were straight up STRIPPER uniforms. Sorry, but I just could NOT imagine myself walking around in a bloody (“killer” bee, get it?) yellow striped bikini top, yellow striped thigh high stockings and wings all night! Um yeah, NO.
Soooo, after finding myself without a costume on Halloween afternoon, I made a last ditch effort and ran down to the dollar store on the corner to see if they had anything. Buried in a box of raggedy incomplete costumes, I found this pirate costume…SOLD! I guess it got the job done, but next time, I’m making like my friend Duke here and coming correct with my Halloween ensemble. His Pac-Man costume was my FAVORITE of the night, especially since he built it all from scratch. It’s the totally 80’s pixelated version too. LOVED IT!
