Jaclyn, New York
Sorry, but this post is about a month late! I’ve been wanting to share my thrift store finds from my trip home to LA for forever, but you know how it goes. As soon as my flight touched down from my holiday vacation I went right back to work, and now, all the stuff I WANT TO DO gets put on the back burner to make room for all the stuff I HAVE TO DO. Boooooooo! But let’s stop the ranting and get straight to the raving, shall we? Raving about the one thing I love most about going home other than my awesome family and friends: THRIFT STORES. I still get a rush whenever I visit my old thrift stomping grounds. Walking in, grabbing a cart, cracking my knuckles and getting ready for the hunt makes me the happiest girl ever. This recent trek proved extremely successful and among other things, managed to produce some amazing vintage jackets and killer lace pieces. Just one look at everything and I’m all SMILES!
Here’s a rundown of the best stores from my trip and a sampling of the top goodies I scored from each one:
Quality Thrift Store: 4433 Holt Blvd. Montclair, CA 91763

Great Deals Thrift Store: 5407 Holt Blvd. Montclair, CA 91763

Beit T’shuvah Thrift Shop: 10409 Washington Blvd. Culver City, CA 90232

To: Grab a cocktail!
Where: The Association, Downtown, Los Angeles
Get Up: White Netted Tunic (H&M), Lace Triangle Bra (F21), Sheer Black Tights (CVS) worn underneath Vintage Half Lycra/Half Mesh Leggings (Goodwill), Vintage Rabbit Fur Coat + Belt + Bag (Vintage Warehouse, L.A.), Rings (F21 and Flea Markets), Green Studded Booties (ASOS)
Ah, another cold day in LA. Thank you weather gods! Evening’s have been so cool lately that when I wear my fur coat, I don’t get the “Really, fur in L.A.?” stares. Sticking to our usual weekend routine, the BF and I went out for a drink to unwind before a busy week. We had to wait in line (what else is new?!) to get into the bar and that’s when I turned into Whiny Wendy. I made the mistake of wearing only a bra, yes Mom- you read that right, underneath my mesh tunic. Being that it’s so…for lack of a better word…hole-y, I almost froze to death in line. But, I did have two saving graces. 1) my fur and 2) my BF who boldly said, “At least it’s not a red bra. That would just be bad all around!” HAHA! Thanks babe, you always manage to say just the right thing!

We like to think of ourselves as vintage shopping professionals. And seriously, when you put in as many hours as we have hunting, obsessing, and bagging everything vintage, it does seem like a completely apropos title. So as pros, going to a flea market or thrift store and seeing big shoulder pads on dresses, jackets, and tops from the 80’s and 90’s is a totally expected occurrence. But no matter how many strong shouldered silhouettes we come across, we can’t help but be completely fascinated by them. You see, we have vivid memories of our mothers going off to work in fully padded POWER suits and therefore, have nothing but respect for this once shunned style statement. Not only that, but shoulder pads are also just plain FUN! Admittedly, sometimes they can be a little too much to pull off, but once you do find the perfect padding for your frame your look can quickly become a great balance of yesterday’s vintage and today’s Balmain – YUM YUM!

Nothing makes Jaclyn and I happier than sharing info on goodies that we loooove with each other and, of course, with you! So imagine this past weekend when I met up with my dear friend Jenny and she was wearing a faux fur head wrap/scarf/hood from Urban Outfitters that we featured awhile back on Closet Crush. I almost died when I saw her, she looked so darn ADORABLE!! Witnessing an all the way live demonstration of its finest features, it was obvious that she tried and tested it out with style and it was only appropriate to have her tell us in her own words why she adores it…

I need to give Closet Obsession mad props for this baby. I LOVE IT. Especially in this rare, stormy, dramatic weather we are having. I’ve just got to live it up while it lasts this week! The lined head wrap is perfect. It is a scarf as well, with two hooks to keep it closed and my neck snuggly. Also, I don’t know about anyone else, but when I wear a hat my hair looks unfortunate when I take it off. Not so with my little furry hood. My hair looks fine upon removing and I am dry and cozy. It’s my favorite rain accessory of the moment along with my Wellies. WAY YAY for this piece!

On Jenny: Deena & Ozzy Faux Fur Hood (ON SALE for $39.99!), Brigid Catiis Blazer + Cinched Rivington Flannel
